PDA & CWS CLEAN-UP BUCKET KITS NEEDED
The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) and Church World Service (CWS) have put out an emergency request stating:
"We are CRITICALLY LOW on cleanup buckets! As we prepare for what is forecast to be a busy hurricane season, WE NEED YOUR HELP building up the inventory so kits can deploy as soon as they are needed."

Kiskiminetas Presbytery has a wonderful disaster response ministry resource in your back yard. The Plum Creek Presbyterian Church is a drop-off site for Church World Service for Clean-Up Buckets, School Kits and Hygiene Kits. The church will be available to receive kits on Tuesdays from 1-3pm September 1st through September 30th. Plum Creek Church is located at 7214 Five Points Road, Creekside, PA 15732.

Some local fast-food restaurants are willing to give pickle buckets (or other 5-gallon buckets with re-sealable lids) or offer them for a small fee. These can be washed out and used for the cleanup buckets.

If you have 36 or more buckets and are looking for transportation options, Ferncliff has a discount with Fed Ex Freight.  You can email Rebecca Roetzel (rebecca@ferncliff.org) to see how your church might get their discount on to your shipment

LESSON 29:
CONFLICT RESOLUTION

OBJECTIVE:
To demonstrate how to resolve conflicts

SCRIPTURE:
James 3: 13-18

SUMMARY OF THE LESSON:
Normally, conflicts are a part of human life. The fact that people do not understand or see things the same way is not a problem but the way of reacting to them in looking for solutions is what creates conflicts or resolves them. Conflict, then, a disagreement or a misunderstanding between two or more people, between groups of people, between regions or between religions as a result of disagreement, interests, beliefs or misconceptions and opinions. When one talks about conflict one often understands chaos, war, bad mood in people, fighting and so much more. No! Conflicts do not always mean something bad that should be avoided.
Not everyone is on the same level of living so everyone always wants to reach the highest level they want: higher prestige, higher salary, high education and more. Slowly as everyone wants to reach that level through different paths there are those who are jealous of others, betrayal and jealousy of others. All of these are due to the spirit of selfishness but sadly this spirit is also found in some Christians. Jealousy and selfishness are thus ingrained in people’s hearts, causing conflicts when applied.
The way to resolve a conflict is to do your best to listen to each other; respect others and respect each other’s opinions, admitting mistakes when you fall and apologizing; put yourself in your partner’s shoes and forgive them; controlling anger and reducing it; praying together; commitment to implement your decisions to help them get out of conflicts; and behavior change.
In short, conflicts are common and we live with them, but the ways to resolve them are different. Christians should not duel in conflicts but should seek a better way to solve them that honor God. In his letter to the Romans, Paul said: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”. (Romans 12:18)

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:
1. What conflicts are most common in your Parish? Do you think they can be solved in a positive way?

2. What do you think your grass root church can do to protect the unity of its members?

3. What are the challenges you face when it comes to resolving conflicts?
